Medical Facilities
Although not specific to Medical, all space-faring structures must have a Life Support System to provide heat, breathable air, and gravity. In addition, Starfleet requires it's vessels to have triple-redundant Reserve and Emergency Life Support systems in case of any emergency where power fails or the hull is breached. All Reserve and Emergency Life Support Generators have independent power supplies.
Universal Systems
System | Description |
Basic Life Support | Provides coverage for the entire ship during normal operation. There is one primary generator location for every three size classes of the vessel. |
Reserve Life Support | In the event that the primary generators malfunction, the reserve generators automatically activate. There is one location for every size class of the vessel. |
Emergency Life Support | In the event that the primary and reserve generators malfunction, the emergency generators automatically activate. There is generally one per deck (two if that section is capable of separating). |
Artificial Gravity Generators | Consisting of plates embedded within each deck, and operating on independent power supplies, these provide variable gravity throughout the vessel. May be adjusted in specific areas to allow lower or higher levels if needed. |
Fire Suppression System | Part of the Security system, this uses onboard sensors and force fields to isolate any fire detected. Once isolated the fire may either be allowed to burn out (once it uses all available fuel), vented to space, or put out by removing all flamable gas (oxygen, etc...) in the isolated area. |
Medical Systems
All ships / bases have at least a basic Medical Facility - even if it's a Medical Kit. The extent and quality of a starship / base's systems and personnel depends on it's Medical Rating. The higher the rating, the larger the facility and larger medical staff.
By general rule there will be one Medical Kit for every 5 crew on board any vessel. For Medical Labs please see the Science page.

Emergency Medical Hologram (EMH)
The EMH is a specialized computer program designed to provide medical assistance during emergencies. It was first approved for use aboard Starfleet Vessels and installations in 2370.
Ships built before 2375 generally had the EMH restricted just to Sickbay locations, after 2375 any vessel or installation equipped (or refitted) with shipwide holo-emitters allow EMH access throughout the ship.
